A large pendant light is suitable for kitchens, home offices and most rooms where bright task lighting is needed.
Pendant lights are suspended from the ceiling, and generally, the word pendant is used for most hanging lamps. A pendant usually has a single light bulb in a lampshade that can be made of a variety of materials and in a range of designs. Sometimes multiple lamps hang together, suspended by cords or chains, often at different heights. Pendant lighting is often seen as an alternative to chandeliers, but they come in a much wider variety of styles and materials than traditional chandeliers.

When installing large pendants, most people’s first question is how high it should hang. This depends on the purpose you need the light for; is it used above a working desk for task lighting, or is it simply for decoration? You need a bright light in the home office or above a kitchen work counter, so the light can hang slightly lower than above the dinner table, in the bedroom or in other rooms that need more atmospheric lighting. The ideal height is anything between 30 to 40 inches above the table, but take your own measurements and test how much the light illuminates at different heights. Never install the light so low that it glares directly into people’s eyes, especially around a dinner table.
The size of the pendant can also affect the ideal height. In a small room and above a small table, a large lamp can look out of place if it is suspended too low. Large rectangular tables may need more than one hanging light fixture, placed at each end of the table.
Pendants are often used above dining tables, bar counters and kitchen tables, but they are so versatile that you can use them anywhere in the house. Because there is such a variety of styles, designs, materials and colors, they can be used to decorate the living room, the bedroom or the bathroom. Pendant shades are available in contemporary designs and in traditional, classic styles, and some of the most popular materials include metal and glass.
Multi light pendants usually need a low voltage and most of the designs also have a dimmer switch. Dimmer lights work best in bedrooms or in other rooms with a more intimate atmosphere. When choosing colors, remember that a large pendant light can be the centerpiece of any room and always attracts a lot of attention, so choose the shade accordingly.
