Today a growing number of families dine at a table that receives the soft glow produced by large pendant lights. Those families can feel more relaxed in that soft glow, than they would in the harsher light that comes from a chandelier. That fact helps to explain the popularity of multi pendant lights.
Restoration Hardware makes four kinds of large fabric pendants. One is a two tiered pendant. The 25 and one half inch diameter of this pendant equals the height of the same hanging light. Each lamp comes with one six inch and three 12 inch rod lengths, so that a family can select the height at which family members want their pendant to hang.

Like all of the pendants in the RH collections, the two tiered piece comes with rods in one of two colors–satin nickel or bronze. Like all the other RH pendants, the fabric in the two tiered light comes in one of four different colors–white microfiber, natural linen, goldenrod linen and black.
In addition to the two tiered piece, RH also makes a simple round, and a rectangular pendant. The rectangular light is 44 inches long, 15 inches wide and 12 inches high. It contains sockets for three bulbs.
The round pendant is the least expensive of the fabric shaded lights. It costs just $450. For an added cost of $45, one can purchase the round Pearson lamp. It offers a touch more elegance than the simple round piece. The rectangular piece costs $695.
Generally, a pendant light costs less than a chandelier. In addition, the pendant does not require a special style of light bulb. In that way the owner of such a hanging light can enjoy some added savings. The absence of a need for specialty bulbs can save time as well as money. One does not need to spend time looking for the right sort of light bulb.
Sometimes a family chooses to do without the soft glow produced by the fabric covered lamp. Sometimes, a family dines under a rectangular pendant with a see clear, transparent shade. In that case, any guest can see clearly the nature of the bulbs in the overhead lighting element. This alternative to the fabric pendant is called a filament pendant. Nautical pendant lighting is also popular for families who have an affinity for sailing and boats.
Other examples of over sized fixtures can be found in the RH “Home” catalog. They include the Quentin Lighting fixture, the Colonnade Lighting fixture and the San Sebastian Lighting fixture. Each of those three large multi light pendants feature bulbs that are inside a hanging piece of lighted glass.
